Start Your Engines!

Today’s the official kick off of the River Along. I know many of you have started (and at least one of you has finished!) but I still couldn’t let the day go by without mentioning it.
Our numbers continue to grow and we’ve exceeded the 50 mark. I still have a few participants to put in the sidebar.
Needles
The needle discussion over the past week or two has been interesting. I’m not intrigued enough to try out some Bryspuns but I’d rather stick with circs. I’ve read they had a manufacturing problem with the glue at the joins and I’ve had problem tracking down Bryspun circs. Anyone have a suggestion for where to find them?
Another Blocked River
Hazel has blocked her River and wrote up a nice entry summarizing her experience. She gives some good tips for new lace knitters as well as another pic of that crazy beaded scrunchy holder thingy. Go take a look.
Katrina Relief
And finally, I can’t end a post today without mentioning Margene’s and Susan’s hurricane relief drive. Donate money to the Red Cross or donate a prize for them to give away. So many people need our help, so please do whatever you can.

  1. Don’t buy Bryspun circs. Our shop was instructed by Bryson to pack up all our needles and return them. We sold about a dozen pairs in our first few weeks with them and three of them broke. Not worth it.

  2. elann.com has some bryspuns. I have heard mixed reviews on them. I will be sourcing out addi naturas…the join on addis is wonderful for knitting and the bamboo point should prove valuable for lace knitting. I picked up some Alessandra Filati Super Kid Seta in Bango (purlple) for my River. The store owner assured me that it is comparable to KSH. I also picked up some beads which I am hoping to used throughout the shawl itself…if it works!

  3. Hi, I’m not sure if you received my comment checking to see if I could still join the River knit along (saw Tracy’s so now I can’t resist). If yes, sorry for the repeat. Even if I can’t officially join I’m queing this one up since I think it will make good plane knitting while I’m on the road next week. I’m going to use Knit Picks Shimmer in Turquoise Splendor.

  4. Can I join the knitalong as well? I’m knitting River in KSH but I’m also planning to knit it as a scarf with some Lorna’s Laces that I have in my stash. Don’t know how that will turn out but it should be a good adventure.

  5. I’d love to join please. Just got the new Rowan magazine yesterday and that was the first pattern that caught my eye. Seems I’m not alone.
I’ll be using KSH Spray in Medici.

  6. Hi, I’m not an offical KAL member but I am knitting River. Downloaded your chart (thanks for doing it!) and there’s a mistake, unless I’m missing something. The 3 edge stitches are in the wrong order at both ends of the rows. Sharon Miller’s written directions say this:
RS rows begin K1, YO, K2tog
RS rows end YO, K2tog, K1
