I’ve been knitting on the intermittently all week. Now that I’ve got a rhythm going I can (mostly) knit by touch. The linen can occasionally get splitty, but it’s not too bad.
The hardness of the yarn makes for a very uneven knit, but I’m hopeful that it will behave like the swatch and look all nice and even after it’s washed and dried (she says with just a hint of concern).
As for mods (you know I had to, right?) I’m knitting this top-down. I want to be able to try it on periodically, and I’d like to stick to the yarn I have so this will be the best way for me to do that.
I’m sure it will end up looking even after it’s washed. That doesn’t sound like something a swatch would lie about
It totally makes sense to make it top down. I would want to try it on as I go, too!
I think I am going to make a top-down skirt for my daughter this summer. I am debating the elastic-in-casing or simple drawstring or some combo of the two…she’s so skinny!
Great color! And knitting it top down makes a lot of sense.
Loving the colors! Top-down = super smart.
The color is just great! Can’t wait to see how this comes out for you.
Yes, the linen will indeed soften. And every time you wash the skirt it will get better and better. I HATE knitting with linen but ADORE the end product. Enjoy!

Hi, could you take me off from Arwen KAL, I don’t and won’t knit it..maybe
The colors are gorgeous – that’s going to be an awesome FO! and while i agree that knitting with linen is a less than enjoyable experience, particularly for continental knitters who have to do the finger wrapping bit, my (not handknit) linen skirt gets the most wear, hands down, of any skirt in my collection. the best for summer, without doubt. looking forward to seeing more as it grows! ~gabriella
It’s looking great! And going pretty fast. Top down is the way to go [I’m just agreeing with everyone else], but it begs the question, why would the write the pattern starting at the bottom?
I think the yarn looks great and yes it will even up once it’s washed. It’s kinda like knitting with rope pre-wash
I love following the skirt developments and all your smart moves with this project…
It’s looking great!
Oo-lala, even if the stitches don’t even out after washing, it’s pretty with all the texture! What a yummy skirt.
