Hey there! I took a vacation and ended up taking a longer blogging break than I expected. I went back to work on Thursday and thought “I’ll definitely do a Friday Fave post” but now it’s Sunday so I guess I missed that boat.
Sometimes you just need a break, you know?
And yes, yarn was acquired on vacation. I’ll talk about that in another post.
Coming Clean
Remember all that talk about knitting all the projects for Rhinebeck? And then, pulling back to 2? Well here it is 5.5 weeks from Rhinebeck and I still haven’t finished any of them. Why do I do this to myself? I know the quickest way to knitting project failure for me is to set a deadline.
I think I do this because in other areas of my life, the deadline thing works. I know this because in the past few months I’ve:
- cleaned out my closet
- donated a bunch of clothes that didn’t fit
- planted all the annuals
- took care of finding a new oil company (yes, oil – we have a 90 year old house. but at least the tank isn’t buried in the ground)
- taking up several pairs of pants
Looking at this list, you know what the difference is? I don’t enjoy any of those tasks. They need to get done, but I don’t ever wake up saying “I can’t wait to take up those pants!”
Maybe the lesson here is that deadlines and hobbies don’t go together.
Now that I took you on that little therapy session, here’s where my knitting is at…
A Few Project Updates
Color Affection continues to grow slowly. I zipped through colors 1 and 2, but adding that third color made it infinitely less portable. I think I’m about 30% done with color 3. The jury is still out on the color combo. I think it needs that bottom band of color to pull it together.
I’ve also been making some progress on a couple pairs of socks. Remember my Sock WIP Hall of Shame? Well I’ve made some progress on my Happy Socks
and Tara.
But still, my last FO was the Peppermint Wish shawl on June 9th. 3 months? Wow that’s a long time. And I started off the year so well with an average of one FO/month. I was dreaming about being able to close out the year with at least 10 FOs – but I’m currently only at 6.
Trying to keep in mind what I just took you through about me and knitting deadlines, I’m not going to set any specific ones. But I am going to kick out 2 FOs before Rhinebeck. Knitter’s choice. Whatever moves me.
I guess I’m not quite ready to take that final leap. Admitting you have a problem is the first step, right?
One more uber important thing…
Before you go, make sure you go wish Andi a Happy Birthday! Because the girl deserves the most awesome birthday. Let’s shower her with lots of happy wishes for another wonderful year.
I’ll catch you on the purl side.
I still love your Color Affection. You’re right, though, it’s just not *there* ’til that bottom band of color is knit. I think it’s going to be fabulous!!
Wow, those are lovely WIPs. I understand the issues with finishing though, there just isn’t enough time in the world. And sometimes cleaning takes priority … I hate it too.
I think you said it: knitting and deadlines should not go together. Sometimes I knit very little, sometimes more… I don’t know. Sometimes, I even want to quit blogging and sometimes not… It seems to depend on the day 😉 Still nice projects in progress, they are fabulous already!
Ah, thank you my dear friend. Having friends like you makes this birthday so special!
Regarding the knitting. You have to stop being so hard on yourself. You have been wicked busy with life things, in those cases knitting is going to the side. I know you will get done with at least one of your lovelies, if not two. You still have time!
Did you notice that your shawl and socks kind of match?
Your CA is going to be so beautiful. I guarantee you are going to be so happy with your color selection.
Can’t wait to see your stash enhancements!
Love that peppermint shawl! And your CA is coming along swimmingly. It was a great relief to know I’m not the only one with a stash of unfinished socks, and to think it’ll soon be Socktober!?
I hear you Jody! Sometimes crafting and deadlines really don’t go together and we just have to accept that. I feel like I need to come clean with my lists and deadlines also; I’m not making any headway. Vacation was supposed to fix that but I got ‘fixed’ with the flu instead. :/
As far as I’m concerned, your projects might not be where you want them to be but you completed tasks that were important. I’m sure your WIPs will be finished at some point and they’ll be just as lovely then.
I still like you Color Affection colors. But I agree, the bottom band will pull it all together.
