Waving Lace Socks from IK Summer 2004 |
Well this is it! Third try was definitely _the_ one.
Now that I’m knitting these I’m surprised I didn’t see this pattern make the blog rounds last year. The pattern is a simple repeat and makes a lovely sock! I love the little ripple effect it makes on the edges (click on the pics above to see them enlarged).
I have modified the pattern to be toe-up and to use a short row heel. I’m just a couple rows above the heel now and I’ll be starting the pattern on the full leg soon. I have 2/3rds of a hank left (based on my handy-dandy scale) so I’m not sure if I’ll be able to use up a full hank for each sock. We’ll see. I’m enjoying the knitting on these enough that I’ll knit until it seems like they’re the right length.
There are 2 variations for the cuff. A basic ribbed cuff and a wavy cuff. I’m going to give the wavy cuff a go but I haven’t checked to see what I’ll need to change since I’ll be knitting them in the opposite direction.
Oh, and for those of you who haven’t kept up with my experimentation, I’m using Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock in the Lilac colorway. And lemme tell ya, there will definitely be more solid-colored LL in my sock future!
Oh those are gorgeous! I have some LL solid sock yarn in my stash, I may just have to do that pattern.
You know, that’s a decidedly wearable sock. I’ve never knit my own socks because I never see a design I’d really consider wearing but those are great. Hmmm…
Those look really great The pattern and color are very complimentary. I’m new to sock knitting and am enjoying seeing so many beautiful ones!
I have them on my to do list. They look marvelous!!
they look great! the pattern and color really cwork well together :O)
I made those for the last Sockapalooza – it’s a great pattern! I did the wavy top. From what I remember, it shouldn’t be hard to knit it the other way around.

Wow, these look amazing–great job!
My sock knitting mom is making those for me in Wildfoote, black. I love them.
Those are coming along so nicely! I just started my first socks, and one day I will get past the basics and work in the lace! They look great, Jody!
BEAUTIFUL!! I love the color. Glad to hear you like the LL solid…I just ordered some.
You’re right about the pattern. It’s beautiful. I also like toe-up socks but I’m not that good at altering cuff-down patterns. You did a wonderful job.
Well done Savannah Chik, those are some great socks!
Just discovered your blog. Love your socks–almost freaked when I saw them cuz I just finished a pair using Tess’ Designer Yarn in Periwinkle only I made the waving lace patt as written tho… The waving lace is a really fun stitch isn’t it–I too want to use it again on something else.
Hey, are you planning on offering the toe-up version with the waving lace cuff for sale here on your blog? I’d be interested in a 2 circ toe-up version. Let me know. It’s really cute. I’m looking for 2 circ sock patterns – and I especially like the toe-up version. Chelle
It’s funny how some patterns take the knitblogs by storm, and others don’t. I think that’s a pretty pattern. I guess I’ll have to go back to the yarn store and pick up that back issue!
