One More Christmas Gift

I asked my sister-in-law Kelly to pick what she’d like me to make for her this year. I enjoy making things for her but I end up picking “safe” colors and designs because I don’t want to make her something she wouldn’t like and would be stuck using it regardless.
When I asked her for ideas on what she’d like she said something celtic. I immediately thought Alice Starmore. I sent her a link to the site and let her look around. She picked the Lismore Cushion. I think it will be lots of fun! Of course, to keep things interesting, she wants me to find more red/orange/yellow shades to use in place of the blues. I’m considering suggesting greens instead of more warm tones because I think the design needs some of the contrast. But she’s got a good eye and knows what she likes, so if she says no I’ll go with all warm tones.
A question – should I go for it and buy the AS yarns? Or should I substitute? And if so, what? Jamieson Spindrift DK is probably a good choice, but it looks to be just as pricey. Any ideas?

  1. I’ve just received some yarn from the Alice Starmore/ Virtual Yarn site and it is lovely stuff – I’m planning on knitting one of her early designs, Elizabeth I, soon. The yarn is lovely and has real depth and interest, not just a flat colour. I haven’t seen any of the other yarns ‘in the flesh’ though so don’t know how they compare. Look ing forward to seeing what you make of the cushion cover!
