Counting picots

Zephyr Cove Start

Remember a couple weeks ago when I talked about my 3-Color Shadow shawl?  Well, she’s no more.  I just wasn’t feeling it.

Since then, I’ve started and frogged three more shawls – Varjo, Echoes of Color and Katriel.  All pretty.  All well-written patterns.  All designs that I can see making some day.  But they just weren’t working for now, with this yarn.

Zephyr Cove Start

Try number five is Zephyr Cove by Romi Hill.  So far I’m in love.  The little leaf is an awesome way to start, and the tiny picots break up swathes of garter stitch but are still simple enough to just knit.  And bonus – Romi tells you how many picots you need to be done with the section.  I don’t know about you, but counting rows of garter stitch is just not my cup of tea.  Counting picots?  Yeah, that’s where it’s at.

Zephyr Cove may be exactly what I was looking for.

I’m still vacillating on which color to use for the second.  The purple is a stronger contrast, but the variegated pink and purple would be more subtle but look good too.  I’m leaning toward the purple but I still have a ways to go before I decide.

Enjoy your Sunday – ours will include 7-layer dip and some new-to-us crock pot chicken.  I’ll catch you on the purl side.

  1. I frogged yesterday too but I’m still knitting the same pattern (Business Casual socks). I had an error that I could not forget about and tinking was too complicated! I’m also knitting a Saroyan and this shawl also so have some nice little leaves on the edge. Yours look really pretty too! Enjoy you Sunday too!

  2. I hate ripping out and I know what you mean about not feeling a project. Thanks for your post because I am feeling that way about a couple of projects in my bag maybe I should just frogged them and move on. There is nothing worse than working on a project that feels like drudgery.

  3. Frogging is not easy but better be 100% into the project than continue just because. Time is of escense and this is your hobby – do what you want and enjoy it. It will show in the FO. Have a great week!

  4. I love the color and the pattern. I have started and frogged a few things lately as well. If you’re not in love with what you’re doing, it’s better to stop and do something else than to continue with something you’re not happy with. Romi’s designs are gorgeous and I can’t wait to see your shawl.
