I woke up the other day with a need to knit all the garments. Suddenly, shawls and cowls just seemed…meh. Do you ever get that way? Just out of the blue you turn on things you were loving?
I suspect it has something to do with the weather. Our weather has been closer to San Francisco than anywhere in the Northeast. It already feels like fall. I find myself dreaming about apple crisp, cranberry bread and Halloween.
So my crazy obsession got me thinking about the garments that I have in progress. I have a few…
Elisbeth – perfect color and I think I’ll get a lot of wear out of it.
3 in 1 – fun color combo and a great casual option that feels a bit “more”
Overlynd – love the color and worsted weight pullover will see a lot of wear
Elfe – I like the colors but I’m going to frog it; I’ve just lost the love.
Hitofude – I treated myself to 3 skeins of Dream in Color Jilly the other day – in the Victoria colorway. I couldn’t resist this pattern any more.
And then a couple I’m thinking about…
Crazy Stripes Tee – using the Elfe yarn and probably at least one other. I like the pop of a different color in there and doesn’t it look crazy fun to knit?
Downeast – I bought the yarn for this over Christmas last year. I know it’d be a weekend staple for me and at that gauge it’ll go quickly too.
And then I need to remember that rhinebeck is only two months away. Two months people. Wow. So I really should hold off on starting more garments until I get up there because there’s never a shortage of inspiration.
Yeah like that’ll happen.
Are you already focusing on fall knitting? What are you working on? Let me live vicariously through you for a bit.
I’ll catch you on the purl side.
Since I seem to be knitting all the shawls lately, my eyes have been wandering to over the garments.
You have some beauties on the needles. Your Hitofude yarn is stunning.
I agree with you regarding Downeast being a staple, it is that kind of garment.
are you thinking Featherweight or something new?
I’ve been bitten by the shawl bug- I’m working on three right now. I just couldn’t help myself, I went to Stitches Midwest last week (first time) and there were shawls everywhere, it was heavenly! I’d love to say I was working on a garment, as a newer-ish knitter I’ve tried one sweater and it’s balled up, cast away, hidden in the bottom of a tote that I can barely even glance at! Maybe one day???
ooh which shawls did you start?
don’t let your experience with garments discourage you. a blogger many years ago wrote that she felt a knitter needed to make 3 sweaters before getting the hang of it. there’s a lot to figure out with garments – what size to make, what shape is going to look good on you, making it the size you intended…and more.
i will say that your shawl knitting will help get you ready for garments when you’re ready
Oh, that crazy stripes tee is an interesting sweater! You have a lot of sweater WIPs to choose from! Didn’t you have a black cowl-neck sweater in progress as well? Elisbeth would look great at Rhinebeck.
My SF weather has convinced me to start my first garter-stitch shawl, Frisson, but I’m also dreaming about knitting a Pomme de pin cardigan.
