Cabled Hoodie

phildarCabledHoodieI blame it on Jackie. I’ve looked at this Phildar hoodie from Irlandais (#397) for months now. When I saw her knitting it up on her blog I couldn’t resist it anymore.
I ordered the book (plus 4 others) from Knit ‘n Tyme last night. I’m very anxious to get started on it! Does anyone know how quickly they ship?
I’m still undecided on the color. While I love the classic ecru that the sample is knitted in, it’s not my personal favorite color to wear. I’m thinking of a brown, navy or black. Maybe even something a little tweedy. I don’t recall seeing many cabled sweaters in tweed in person though. How well do the cables show up in tweed? In the pics I’ve seen they’re not very defined, but sometimes the camera just has trouble picking up detail that’s easily seen in person.

  1. check Rachael’s yarnagogo site for two gorgeous cabled sweaters…the red one is stunning. With all of the work involved, you certainly want it to show up!

  2. Yay! I’m glad someone else will be knitting this too! I don’t think I’d go too dark or the cables don’t show up as nicely. Medium brown, or gray, or a navy that isn’t too black would be nice. Tweed should be fine if it’s not too dark as well.

  3. The stuff I ordered from Knit n Tyme came within a matter of days and I’m out in California. I was actually surprised at how quickly it got to me. And excellent choice – that is a super sweater and I think it would look great in anything not too dark so that the cables still can pop out to eye. Be sure to post your progress!

  4. When I ordered from Knit ‘n Tyme in April, it took a little over a week to get the magazine. That sweater is so beautiful, I can’t wait to see what color you pick!

  5. I love that sweater! I’ve never seen it before, but it certainly is tempting me into increasing my pattern stash!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I did a quick search on yours to see if you have a pic of Isabella, but didn’t see one. Dexter used to be a pretty big boy (13 pounds), but he’s an old man now (16 years, I think), and has shrunk somewhat over the past couple of years…I think he’s around 10 pounds.
My other little kitty, Reilly, is a very teeny girl. She’s only about 7 or 8 pounds.

  6. Awesome pattern. I say go lighter on the yarn – doesn’t have to be the ecru or ivory type colour but not dark, dark navy or black. A light tweedy type colour would probably be really good, too.
I like ordering from Knit-n-tyme. They seem to have good service and ship fairly quickly.

  7. That’s my fave sweater out of the Irlandais book, so Yay(!!) I can knit vicariously through you!
And I’ve had good luck with Knit n Tyme as well — usually right around a week from order to arrival in CA.

  8. That’ll look really cute on ya – hey any plans for the NYC yarnathon? I can do any weekend but the last weekend of Aug or Labor Day Weekend…
…as if I need to add to my stash-zilla…hm…I think that’s what I’m going to name my stash…Stashzilla!!!! GGGGRRRRAAAAAGGGGGGHHHH!!!!

  9. You always pick some of the cutest projects to do. I really like this sweater. A lot. I will have to give some serious thoughts to adding it to my list.
I envision it in a light brown, wearing it with some jeans while leaf peeping in the fall.

  10. what a great sweater. i’ve had my eye on that pattern for a while. i have ordered the latest phildar that is not in stock yet and may have to add this book even though i have been trying to resist it for a while. but it is beautiful and i better get it before it is no longer available. i have had good luck getting things pretty fast from knitntyme if its in stock. for new stuff sometimes there is a wait, but it generally notes when it not in stock on her site. I would go with a lighter shade of any of the yarns you mentions ’cause with the work involved in cables you know you wanna see them and i mean clearly.
