Friday Faves: Yarns I Haven’t Tried…Yet

Yarns have really been grabbing my attention lately. They’re another great way to get inspiration – a certain drape, a new fiber or an unexpected color – they all send me dreaming about my next project.

Here are a few of my latest faves…

Friday Fave Yarn #1 08-02-13

Colour Adventures – Super-saturated beauties.  She has lace through DK plus a bit or worsted and aran.  I found this yarn on my friends’ activity tab on Rav.  My current faves are Merino Light (a single-ply fingering weight) in Sour Cherry – hello RED – and her single-ply lace in the color Magical (a gorgeous lilac and lavender).

Lioness Arts – The Exquisite DK sounds amazing – 70% Alpaca, 20% Silk, 10% Cashmere.  I learned about this yarn when I saw the Headwinds shawl by Alicia Plummer.  The shawl was designed to take advantage of this yarn – with amazing drape and softness.

Abi Grasso Yarns – The pic shows her watermelon yarn – complete with seeds! – but she has many others.  Stars and Stripes, Valentine Hearts and Ghosts to name a few.  She brings self-striping to a whole new level.

Friday Fave Yarn #2 08-02-13

Manos Alegria – Alegria means Joy in Spanish, and the colors in this yarn do just that.  I saw this yarn at my LYS about a month ago and can’t stop thinking about it.  I have no need for another multi-colored handdyed sock yarn but I know it’s just a matter of time.  Take a look at all the colors on the Rav stash page.

Sweet Georgia – Her tagline sums it up – passionate + relentless + unapologetic color.  She has a wide range of yarns and bases – from the typical MCN (with 20% cashmere), to silk/merino laceweight, to sock yarn with BFL and bamboo.  And it’s all gorgeous.

What are a few yarns that you’re dying to try?  Let’s enable each other.

I’ll catch you on the purl side.

  1. I picked up a skein of Alegria at a recent shop hop, and I agree that it’s something special! The colorway — Tannat — is so pretty I almost want to cry 😉 And it most definitely does not feel like just a wool/nylon mix — the softness is extraordinary.

  2. You makin’ it hard for me to resist Jody! LOLOL! All beautiful options that I’ll have to try … after my cold sheeping is done for a year.

  3. Other than Sweet Georgia, I have yet to try these yarns. I have been eyeing Lioness hardcore. Excellent selections. These need to be added to my bucket yarn list. :)
